A strong vision for the AFC Asian Cup 2027

Having successfully qualified for the AFC Asian Cup China 2023, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) has re-asserted its commitment to hosting the next edition of the tournament in 2027 if successfully selected as host under the bidding process.

Following the recent 3-0 win over Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia finished top of the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 qualification Group D, being unbeaten in the ten matches played against highly respected group competitors Uzbekistan, Palestine, Singapore and Yemen. The feat also sees the team qualify for the AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to Qatar, the Continent’s final qualification round for the FIFA World Cup 2022.

The Green Falcons have now won eight of their last 10 matches under Head Coach Herve Renard, and the performances of the national team, having previously won the AFC Asian Cup three times but never hosted, have reinforced the ambition of SAFF to host the tournament in 2027.

Further inspiration has also been provided off the pitch, with Saudi Arabia having been selected as a centralised host for the Group D matches. Riyadh’s King Fahd International Stadium and Kind Saud University Stadium, provided tremendous backdrops and technical facilities for the competing teams.

Quote (heading 3)

Reflecting on the hosting of the Group D matches in the Kingdom, SAFF President Yasser Almisehal said, “There is something truly special about the AFC Asian Cup, with so many diverse countries and unique cultures coming together as one. This month, we have been delighted to host Uzbekistan, Palestine, Singapore and Yemen, and we are now even more excited and motivated to bring the AFC Asian Cup to Saudi Arabia for the first time in our history through our bid to host the Competition in 2027. We are determined that it will be a tournament that will move Asian football forward like never before.”
