Momentum continues to build as Saudi 2027 marks one year

This month, February 2021, marks one year since the launch of Saudi Arabia’s bid for the AFC Asian Cup 2027. It’s been one year of hard work, commitment and excitement as the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) and the Ministry of Sport have reached several important milestones on the journey towards winning the rights to host the AFC Asian Cup 2027. Two milestones in particular are highlighted here: the launch of the official website and the submission of the Bid Book.

In September 2020, the official website, saudi2027.com, was launched. For the first time Saudi Arabia’s vision for the AFC Asian Cup 2027 was shared with the world. A presence on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter followed soon after. The public interaction with these online platforms highlights the continued interest in, and growing support of the bid – nationally and across all of Asia.

In December 2020, Saudi Arabia’s Bid Book was delivered to the AFC. The submission of the Bid Book to the AFC was the culmination of months of hard work to ensure the bid offers Asian football the best opportunity to move forward, on and off the pitch – a vision that is represented in the bid’s slogan, ‘Forward for Asia’.

To mark the occasion of one year, the Saudi 2027 bid team shared a video on its social media channels, which has now received over 1 million views. SAFF President, Yasser Almisehal, stated that marking one year of the bid was a milestone, but this is just the beginning. He continued by saying that the momentum will continue to build for what will be more than just a football tournament hosted in Saudi Arabia, but a next step forward for Asian football, creating a strong legacy for all.
